VIA=vertical integrated assessment...the exam that assesses everything from 1st yr till now...hopefully I won't need to sit for this exam again next year..Amin...

Non-weight bearing OK!

so today I had my GP & Psych OSCE...for those who doesn't know what OSCE is bleh refer my old post nih...
As usual, sure ade bende bodoh happens during the OSCE..akan ade laa situasi di mane I would left my stickers in the stations...well, sticker nih kene carry with us in every station, kat sticker tuh ade ID number yg kene kasik kat examiner n they will attach them to the assessment sheet..ade jugak laa part yg terangkut instructions yg supposedly kene tinggal for next candidate..standard laa tuh..

but the funniest thing I said today was at the 2nd station...in this station, we were given the knee X-ray findings of a 50++ y/o lady n we should tell the diagnosis & manage the patient...as part of the management process, I told the lady that having an osteoarthritic knee, she would benefit from doing exercise...I cared to say specifically that it should be a weight-bearing exercise!!aahahha...
looking a bit shocked, she asked, "did u say weight-bearing exercise?"..I was like, "yeah, the one that doesn't put too much pressure on your knees...", she continued on saying, "what sort of exercise is weight-bearing?"..not knowing what to say..I told her I'll give her a handout about the sort of exercise that she should be doing...I should mention that when I said weight-bearing, Andrew Beveridge (the examiner + my tutor) stopped writing & put on a very serious face...he must think that I really want to be an orthopaedic surgeon who wants to benefit from a knee replacement surgery, the sooner the joint is damage, the richer I will be!!hahahah....bodoh2....(he must have a not-so-long thought whether or not he should pass me, a dangerous doctor!!)

I like to write more about the other stations but this one is the funniest, it deserves a special entry!

3/52

3 weeks remains before I'll be home for Eid...which also means I have 1++ weekbefore I'll be leaving this GP land..and within these days I'm gonna be busy with all those assignments..(x suke2...xsuke...x suke)

For the past 3 weeks I have been to going to a different GP as Dr Lori was away on her holiday....lucky me, I was placed with Dr Ebrahim..At first, I tried keeping my expectation low so as not to be disappointed if he turns out not to be a Muslim or if he was only just born Muslim but doesnt observed the teachings of prophet Muhammad..It was interesting that in this practice, there were 2 Dr Ebrahim(s)...Dr A Ebrahim (my GP) & his father, Dr E Ebrahim...

On my first day, while I was having my lunch in the pantry, I heard azan coming from one the drawers...Yayy, they kept an azan clock...I said to myself, this is a good sign!Dr E Ebrahim offered me to have his sandwich, which was cut into 4!(cute gile!)..he said to me, "it's halal u know.."Dr E Ebrahim is a such a gentleman...he reminds me of my own granddad who is 6 years older than him..yes, Dr E Ebrahim is old, he's 78!!

While I was there, I met quite a number of Muslims patients...they all came from different ethnicities...Bosnian, Bangladeshi, Somalian, Sudanese, Afghans etc..

Not only Muslims, I had the opportunity to meet this man who identified himself as a Noahide...I bet none of u have heard of this religion...Dr Ashraf (I like to refer to him as Dr Ashraf although by convention, the title Dr should be followed by the person's surname) asked this guy to tell us 7 principles of Noahide which he failed to list down..so we end up googling Noahide as Dr Ashraf was really to know how many followers they have out there...after skimming through the article on wiki..

Dr A: We also believe in all these things that u, Noahide believe, why don't you become a Muslim..

Mr X: No, I don't wanna get into anything serious...

Dr A: There are many Muslims around...I'm a Muslim, Munirah is a Muslim...& tomorrow we will start fasting...come on my friend, you're gonna be behind...

Mr X: Owh, is it tomorrow? I'm gonna be fasting anyway, because of my tongue (he has thrush which causes pain when swallowing)

Dr A: possibly...You know you can go to monash university every friday during Ramadhan and join the Muslims breaking their fast..You don't have to become a Muslim..everyone is invited...

Mr X: ok2...No promise, but I'll think about it...

I had a few conversations with Dr Ashraf about Islam & Muslims...Although, when he mentioned some Arab words I always took some time to before I can compute the words into our Malaysianised Arabic...i.e fiqh=feqah, najas=najis

Dr A: I think there are so many 'fiction fiqh' among muslims..U know what I mean?

Me : No...

Dr A: Do you learn fiqh?

Me(sungguh malu rase di hati kerana mengambil mase lame utk fiqh=feqah)

Me : yeahh...

Dr A: U know, "someone said, u can't do this"...(bla bla bla)...there's always someone said...

___________________________________________

sume bende kat atas nih sy tules almost 2 minggu lepas...although ade byk lg bende yg sy rase nk tules tp dh mls aa plak sbb entry nih cam dh basi...

xpe laa, sy tambah sket aa..

on my last day with Dr Ashraf, I got the chance to do PR exam...per-rectum exam....self-explanatory laa kan what that involves...slalunye PR exam nih akan dibuat when patients present with PR bleeding or utk check abnormalities in the prostate...mase kitorg buat sexual & reproductive health week tuh, dlm tute Male Pelvic Model Dr Wijesingha tanye sume org sape yg penah buat PR exam..mostly bdak2 mat salleh tuh dh buat laa...lalu die pon suro sume yg x buat lg make buat PR exam b4 grad..I'm sure other med students in other parts of the world dh biase PR exam..hanye mereka yg malas pegi hospital n x proactive spt sy sahaje yg ketinggalan...

peluang sy dtg mase hari terakhir bersame Dr Ashraf...patient nih umo dlm 70thn aa...last week die dh buat PSA test (prostate specific antigen) n didapati PSA die raised...lalu kene laa buat PR...
Dr A : remember the last time I said I might do a PR exam on you?
Patient X: mmm...yeahh...
Dr A : looks like thats what we're gonna do today..
Patient X: why dont u let this lady do it...she would have smaller fingers...
Dr A : emm..I don't think so...
Saya : Can I have a go?
(di kala ini patient tuh dh duduk di sebalik tirai di atas katil while Dr A n me kat luar...)
Dr A : Mr X, is it ok if she has a go?
Patient X: Fine with me...
Dr A : Ok...put on the glove..in an inexperienced hands, u need to wear both gloves..bla-bla-bla...

Itulah ceritenye, dpt laa sy buat PR...walopon sy mcm x laa reti nk appreciate camane prostate tuh rase...x same pon cam model!!!I'm sure sume doctors dh boring buat PR n nk termuntah dh bile kene buat PR tp bg student cam sy nih mmg perlu buat byk2 br bleh tahu ape normal ape x....

Ok laa dah laa...panjang gile dh kot...

24

I guess even though my assignments are piling up, my blog deserves a post on my birthday..
It wouldn't hurt spending 15minutes on a simple entry...I still would end up doing other things otherwise..
So, here I am..turning 24!I used to think that 24 is a good age to get married...that's when my mom got married..but she got my sister when she was 27, so I have a good 3 years left to start feeling behind..
Anyway, let's do something different this year...stop making any unrealistic resolutions...

Hmm..

I can't think of anything realistic...give me till tomorrow night to come up with something...

It has been 4 years

We had a barbecue at Bayview Park..it was to celebrate 4 years of our life in Melbourne..When I said we, I meant the IMS 2005 group..IMS is Introduction to Medical Studies..all 25 of us came from KMB..on September 2005, we enrolled in IMS program for 3 months and started the MBBS program on February 2006..

As expected, we had a great fun eating, catching up with each other (as we're all doing different things at the moment), playing games...thanks to the organisers for their effort and everyone for turning up & preparing foods etc..it would be a lot more fun if everyone could make it, but still, it was a good turnout..

We also had gift-exchange on that day..I bought Napong a shirt..hopefully it will fit him!

I like what Pokwe gave me..a two-drawer mirror storage box..it's gonna be useful as I don't have mirrors in my room!...I think my prezzie is the best-looking one!Look..

On our last gift-exchange 2 years ago, Pokwe gave me a photo frame which I use to put my family pix..It was well-wrapped as well!

I can't believe that we have less than 2 years before we're gonna go our separate ways..We're more than halfway through people!

(xde tajuk)

Sudah lame x menules blog...mmg btol laa name blog nih..
x suke laaa Pengamalan Am nih...sungguh memenatkan jadual persekolahannye...
maka menyukarkan saya utk menules blog...
Hmm...hari nih sy pegi GP tuh..sy terlambat, pastu sy smp train station, train pon lambat gk...last skali smp kat Dandy pkol 910...bas plak ntah kenape xdtg2...sy pon sbb x nk laa lambat sgt, naik cab je..although sy dh call clinic tuh bgtau sy akan lambat n die kate ok je..
skali bile smp kat clinic tuh, Alex the receptionist kate skang nih diorg x cukup Dr..nurse MC..."our practice is falling apart"...
slame nih nmpk Dr Ayala agak menakutkan..sbb die cam besar2 & nmpk x friendly..tp rupenye sangkaan sy itu benar2 meleset..she made the effort utk translate n summarise what's happening since sy x paham diorg ckp spanish...n die byk laa mengajar...
pastu bile dh nk blk die kate kalo nk mintak tolong ckp laa kat die..
sy pon memberitahu masalah sy yg xde patient lg utk chronic illness study tuh..die pon dgn baik hatinye rekemen patient die yg bleh ckp english..siap suro receptionist call patient tuh tanye bleh x dtg clinic hari selase depan utk jumpe sy...sungguh baik hati!!
menarek kan practice nih? sume dr2 tuh bilingual.....sy penah dgr consultation bahase indon, tagalog, italian & spanish!

Di'tanda' oleh NH

Sesungguhnya saya memang suka menjawab 'tanda-tanda' tetapi oleh kerana kesibukan putaran Pengamalan Am ini, saya terpaksa menangguhkan tampalan ini sehingga hujung minggu.
Syarat-syarat :
1. ‘Tag’ dijawab dalam Bahasa Melayu sahaja.
2. Tag orang yang telah men’tag’ anda
3. Tag orang yg anda mahu tag

- Anjing, kerana saya mempunyai pengalaman dikejar anjing semase zaman sekolah dahulu
- Biawak, sebab ia hodoh dan kotor
- Tikus, sebab suka mengganggu ketenangan hidup

6. 5 fakta tentang anda
- saya suka bergossip
- saya pemalas
- saya mempunyai tahap kelenturan badan yang tinggi
- saya kekurangan zat besi
- saya peminat setia Fernando Alonso – saya selalu melabelkan diri sendiri sebagai perempuan simpanan dia

Dia baru sahaja selesai menduduki peperiksaan akhir tahun 3. Ramai mengatakan kami seiras tetapi hidungnya mancung.

14. Saya tak pernah bosan dengan (senaraikan 4)
- tidur
- berangan
- makan nasi
- menonton filem “Percutian”

15. Bilakah pertama kali anda bercinta?

20. Siapa yang anda mahu tag?
Koyan, Hiswani, Mc Ah, Ijah, Nadxoxo, Kak Long Yaya, Kak Nini, Dayen

PS: saya pasti anda kagum dengan 'tanda' bahasa Melayu ini sampai tajuk filem2 pon saya terjemahkan.

A Long Day

I am soooo exhausted but I have many things that I wanna share with you..
one of the reasons I blog is to record things that happen in my life so that when I read 'em someday, I could recall what I felt at the moment...that's why some things I can't just leave till later or else the feelings will go away..

So today is my second day at the GP clinic. I was with Dr Lori the whole day...She's going on a 38-day Europe trip starting the day after tomorrow till 25th August...I've been sucking up to her since my first day and I tried to be as enthusiastic as I possibly can and as for now I think we've bonded...I hope when she's away I'll be put under the nice doctors, Sebastian is a very good teacher, Cely is nice as well..

this is the longest I've spent in a day at a clinical placement..I was there from 9am till 640pm with only about 1 hr+ break for lunch, Zuhur, Asar & Maghrib.....I should leave at 5pm but I thought I wanna have a chat with Dr Lori once she's done with her patients as she won't be with me for the next 5 weeks...so I waited until Dr Lori said that I should go as it was already late..(bear in mind it's winter & it's already Isyak when I left)

When I left I just took whichever bus that arrives first..there were 2 bus stops at different side of the road...as there were a few buses sharing the same bus stop & the first bus to arrive was at the other side of the road, I quickly cross the road and get into the bus...without checking where the bus is heading...If I'm not mistaken all the buses will eventually stop at Chadstone although their routes might vary slightly, but still they should stop at Monash Uni as well & I can just walk home from there....unfortunately, it turns out that it was the last bus and it won't go up to Chadstone, the final destination is Applet Drive (I have no idea where that is) and it will return to it's depot...I got no choice but have to stop there and take another bus to go to Dandenong Railway Station, take the train to Clayton & then walk from there home..I can't be bothered walking so instead of spending 15mins walking, I decided to pay $5.20 to the cabby...after the violent attacks of robbery in Clayton a few months ago, I don't feel safe anymore walking alone in the dark...

When I got off the cab, I checked in the car if I left anything behind and realised that my books weren't there...yup, I'm a very careless person...if u wanna steal something from me, just follow me around for one whole day, and wait till I left something behind...erm, U might get demotivated after a couple of days not getting anything valuable, but if U stick around for let say...a month, U'll get something...
When I got into the house, I realised something else is missing...my GP attendance sheet!!!it's folded in one of those books!

I arrived home at 803pm....I missed Masterchef Australia which is aired at 7pm-8pm...but as usual, they always go over the time so I had the chance to watch the elimination!

I am tired, hungry & now, I don't just lose a few grams of weights (fats I hope!) but I also lost the most important form that needs to be submitted at the end of this rotation..

I don't where I could have left those things, it could be the 804 bus, or 802 bus, or the bench at the train station or in the train itself...

I find the train's lost and found office number and it only operates till 5pm...I then looked for the bus company number and called them...luckily, the buses were already at the depot..the person who picked up the phone went and had a look into the buses and found my books!!Thank God...

Asma' cooked a lovely dinner for me, grilled chicken+pizza+spinach..yay!!

As when I'm about to eat, I checked my mobile phone and received a message from my.monashportal SMS results service. it says,

MED4082 PGO

which means I passed the exam!!
I'm soooo happy!

Owh..there was another thing that made my day...there was this patient who came in for Implanon insertion...

N****t: Where are you from?
Me : Malaysia
N****t: You're beautiful!
Me : Thank you..(smilling but feeling embarrassed in front of Dr Lori)

Dear N****t, I don't have to write your name anywhere, I'll always remember U!

Anyway, N****t is a young 18 year old Sudanese refugee who has been in Australia for many years now....heheheheh

Yaaaahhoooooooo!

MH147 (MEL-KUL): Thu, 17 Sept, Depart 1500, Arrive 2110
MH148 (KUL-MEL): Thu, 24 Sept, Depart 2135, Arrive 0850 (+1 day)

I've got my flight tickets...It took me 2 days to make up my mind about skipping classes in order to go home for Eid..I'll be doing Psych by then..let's just hope that they won't be too strict with attendance...I am slightly worried but I can't be bothered..once I say I wanna go home..then home it is...

It has been almost 5 years since the last time I celebrate Eid with my family in Malaysia...I was hoping to get my final yr's vacation rotation during Eid but I wasn't that lucky...there are 2 more Eid left until I graduate and I want to have one of them in Malaysia..I haven't seen my younger sist for over 2 years and if I waited till next year (which can't be guaranteed), it will be 3 years...
For the past few years, I wished I was in those family Eid photos...or being the one capturing those happy moments...my nuclear family (erk..lame gile kot x dgr term keluarga nuklear) is quite small..consisting of my 2 sisters n my mother but I have a big extended family...my mom has 6 siblings and I have 43 cousins(yup2..no history of infertility in my family)...1st Syawal is the time when everyone gathered at my grandparents house, followed by my uncles' and aunties' houses on the next couple of days...I really enjoy those family gatherings where we never ran out of things to talk..the only thing that I don't like about family gathering at my grandparent's house is whenever I was asked to make tea!...I always act like I wasn't listening or I was so engrossed in the conversations...ahhaha

I'll be in there this time around!!

To those celebrating Eid in Terengganu...let's meet up!
Aemell - hope to c u and I believe we'll be seeing each other..
Serre - make yourself available for me please..it has been 3yrs++ since we last met!
Koy - almost 5 yrs...(blk laa Terengganu...n turun KT please..mari kite sume be'reunion'..)

For other friends, I know it's Eid & ssh nk jumpe but if you want to bleh laa see me off in KLIA on 24th Sept..or I might be in KL on 18th...

Perfect Italiano Ricotta Cheese

Last week Effah n me made pizzas..We took the recipe (for the dough & sauce) from Masterchef Australia website...one of the reality tv shows that we all follow...it was quite a success..we made 3 different toppings with chicken, beef n seafood...

I had to make the dough twice as the first one was very salty!!my fault...I don't know how to reset the scale..

anyways, here are some of the photos...

If you're wondering if they did taste good, I assure you...they were!

this is Effah's favourite ad on tv..Perfect Italiano Ricotta Cheese..this ad has a new sequel which shows this 'perfect' guy practising his listening skill...in this new ad, he was making pizza...that's what inspired us..

mmm...we didn't actually buy Perfect Italiano....we used Coles'...

Wedding Plan

1. How old are you?
I'm gonna be 24 in a month

2. Are you single?
Yes...If I'm 'seeing someone' as opposed to 'going out with someone', I should be considered single right?

3. At what age do you think you'll get married?
I want to get married before I turned 28..It's not possible for me to get married until at least I graduated..so I guess 26 would be the earliest and 28 the latest...(provided I finally found someone)

define with..

5.If not, who do you want to marry?
mmm...Jon Priestley??

6. Who will be your bridesmaid & bestman?
This one I can't decide for now..I have many best friends to choose from...do I also get to choose the best man?I guess depends on who the groom is..

7. do you want a garden/beach or traditional wedding?
hmm...whichever..(I guess I don't put much thoughts on how my wedding should be even though browsing wedding photos is my favourite pastime)

Tahiti!!!(if I got the money & time)...otherwise, Pulau Tenggol...

9. How many guests do you think you'll invite?
I'll surely invite everyone I know plus relatives that I may not know...I guess a thousand?

10. Will that include your exes?
I don't have exes..but I surely would invite those whom I've had crush on...

11. How many layers of cake do you want?
Honestly, I don't care about wedding cake...I'd rather spend my money on my honeymoon...One layer is enough..

12. When do you want to get married, morning or evening?
morning/evening for akad..reception on my side the next day

13. Name the song/tune you'd like to play at your wedding.
I don't have a favourite song!!(I tell U when I found one)

Makan2 Minum2

After our Puffing Billy trip, we had dinner at Sarawan...my favourite Briyani in Melbourne..Pink named her tummy as 'Julia' & Adila decided to also name hers..she called hers 'Boris'...after the dinner it was obvious that 'Julia' & 'Boris' combined are definitely smaller than my unnamed tummy!!

I cooked Nasi Dagang for dinner on Sunday night and we had a small M03C reunion..Pink, Adila, Shaq & Rina were my classmates in KMB...I also invited Aida to come over as Aida & Adila are good friends since they were in Jasin (I think)...I have been thinking of cooking Nasi Dagang for over a month but haven't had the time...now that I have friends coming to Melbourne, it's reason enough for me to cook!
I guess it wasn't too bad, 'Julia' asked for a second helping...the first I've seen within the past few days!

I can't remember if this was our fake laughs or real ones...
Gambar normal
Cube meniru Adilanye facial expression..Shaq wasn't being supportive...

After the dinner, I followed them back to city...we had coffee that night and it was Adila's shout!
The topic that night was gay & Little Britain...both Pink & Adila failed at convincing us to watch Little Britain!

On Monday noon, after seeing Pink off at Southern Cross Station (Pink is going to Sydney), I had lunch with Gge & Sher...after a few minutes of thoughts, we decided on Blok M...I had Ikan Balado & they both were sharing Nasi Campur...again, my tummy is bigger than theirs combined!!

Owh...thanks to Sher for carrying my heavy & space-consuming coats...and to Zeff for picking them up from my cousin..

Brighton Beach Photo Shoot

Last Friday, aku berbesar hati memenuhi permintaan Pink yg teringin utk bergambar di hadapan bathing boxes yg berwarna-warni kat Brighton Beach nih...

aku curik2 tgkp gamba bapak n anak bermain pasir ini...sweet kan?

Pink ajak aku tngkp gamba kat rumah buruk ini..aku mule2 cam "ape brg?bukan ke nk tangkap gamba rumah2 kecik tuh..nih ape kelas? rumah besar dan buruk!"

Baiklah, inilah antara gambar2 kitorg hari tuh...

korang suke yg mane?

Hari nih, Board Examiners bermesyuarat dan memutuskan siapakah 4th yr meddies yg kene amek supp (supplementary exam)...semase aku berjalan2 di Brighton Beach nih terlupe laa sekejap pasal result nih..bile dh puas tgkp gamba br laa aku notice missed calls & text msgs from Shaq n Asma' ckp pasal supp...aku pon mule laa cuak..tp still aku nk check email aku sendirik bile blk rumah kang...I can't have someone else reading my emails utk tgk aku kene supp ke x...
It turns out aku x kene supp...even so, aku still x laa tenang sgt pasal result nih..sbb system kat monash nih, u will be required to sit for supps if your marks are within borderline range because they don't know if they should pass or fail u...but, if your marks are lower than the borderline range, u will fail the exam and no longer required to sit for further assessment...hence, harus repeat the semester...although nih kire rare cases aa...tp possible utk berlaku...ape tah lg utk med student pemalas cam aku nih..
ape2 pon, there's nothing I can do apart from berdoa je laa...tunggu je laa result kuar 13th july!
sape2 yg bace entry nih..please pray for me!

Night photography yg demotivating

We (pink & me) were excited about having a night photography but were disappointed looking at the products..Shaq treated us both to Melbourne Observation Deck (Rialto Towers) where we can enjoy a 360 degrees view of Melbourne City..it was very windy making it even more difficult to shoot..the cold air doesn't help with our motivation either...

Here are some of the photos:

If you've been to Melbourne, U can try identifying some of the landmarks..

Mornington Peninsula

Asma' n me were left by ourselves at home as the others went for a holiday in Tassie..
We decided to go for a day trip to Mornington Peninsula last Tuesday..
My classmate from KMB, Pink is here in Melbourne so we invited her & Sarah to join us..

We first went to Point Nepean which is at the very tip of the Peninsula...

Yes, we took the tractor, or otherwise we had to walk to get to Point Nepean...

This is Fort Nepean which is the remnants of Victoria's coastal defence in World War II

Before we went home, we stopped at Rye and took a walk along the jetty..

OSCE

For those who doesn't know what OSCE is..it's an acronym for Objective Structured Clinical Examination..which is a method of medical student assessment..different med schools have different ways of running their own OSCEs...we have 12 active stations..in these stations, we had to perform a task which might involve us having to examine a patient, explain our diagnosis, investigation findings or management, take a history, or counselling the patient..apart from role-playing we also have to describe a photograph, videos or just whatever it is they could come up with..each stations last for 6 minutes and we have 1 minute reading time before we enter the door to each of the stations..this time, we were also given the information for our next 3 stations that we can work on during our rest station..in total we have 12 active stations and 4 rest stations...6 of the stations are for paeds and 6 for O&G..

I was among the 17 students from metro sites who had to sit our OSCEs at Traralgon (a rural hospital)...most of us were volunteers and the rest like myself were picked by the uni people to sit our exam there as there weren't enough enough examiners to accommodate us all here..I'm not sure if I should consider myself lucky or otherwise...the theory is, rural doctors are nice so they might be more lenient with marks-hence why some of us did volunteer to go there..Traralgon is 2 hrs away from Monash Clayton..thank God they also arranged a bus for us to go there!

I warn you this entry is gonna be lengthy and boring!as I'm gonna be talking about all of the stations...

Each station, the assessor will have to mark us according to the listed criteria and also provide a global score..a global score will be marked as clear fail, borderline and clear pass..

Station 1-6 are all paeds stations which I did badly..I doubt if I passed any of these...

Station 1
In this station we had to explain investigation findings of a child who presented with pallor and tiredness. FBE and ferritin revealed that she has iron deficiency anaemia. After explaining the blood tests, we also had to explain our management. We had one iron-deficiency anaemia when we were in 2nd year and I didn't do well then either..and now they're giving us a similar station?only this one is a child who doesn't eat meat and the one back then was a mother who is breastfeeding and sufferring from post natal depression(PND)...(I failed to pick that up...anyway, we were only 2nd yr students back then, how do we know there's such a thing as PND??and where they can get support from?)
This time, I was too nervous as this was my first station, I couldn't remember anything about the dose of iron that we should give and how to follow-up the patient..only when I have a chat with De'a at home I recalled answering a question in a book about the dosage and how much it is...
please doctor give me a clear pass anyway....

Station 2
We had to take a history from a mother who came in with her 10 week-old daughter who hasn't been putting on weight..her history doesn't reveal any obvious symptoms that I can put down to any particular causes...we then had to describe the baby's chest X-ray and propose our management..she had heart failure secondary to VSD...I only mention diuretics..I know there's another drug, it wasn't enalapril...when I'm on the way home, then only I recall it is captopril...

Station 3
This is a written station. We had to watch a video of a child who was born at 25weeks' gestation weighing only 697g..He is now 18 months corrected-age..our task is to comment on the child's fine and gross motor skills according to Denver Chart...I thought it wasn't supposed to be that difficult but it turned out 6 mins was too short to look at the video, Denver Chart and to write...especially for someone like me who hardly ever look at Denver Chart before this..when the bell rung and I was about to put my answer sheet on the box then only I realised, there were 2 other questions at the next page...without thinking I just wrote 3 month old for both fine and gross motor skills...that was definitely wrong!I think he is only around 1 month old according to Denver...

Anyway, can you believe a baby born weighing only 697g? I've seen a baby who was born at 26 weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit...she looked very fragile...I googled 26week baby and this is how they look like...imagine performing surgery on them...

Station 4
In this station we had to describe otoscope image of a child's ear who came in because of regression in his speech development...after that we had to explain the audiology results and propose management..it was very stupid of me not to know how does a left or right ear should look like when viewing with otoscope..from the audiology results, I know that it wasn't sensorineural loss but at that time, I can't recall what is the other form of deafness...if only I wasn't too nervous I should be able to tell them that it was conductive deafness...there are clues from the audiology results anyway..instead, I just kept quiet until the examiner gave me the diagnosis of bilateral conductive deafness and asked me to explain that to the mother..I bluffed all my way through the last part of the station, saying that the deafness was because of 'glue ear'..and I told her that her soon should have tympanostomy done...she asked if antibiotics would be useful and I simply said that it won't..honestly I don't know if it's gonna work or not but I just just tried to look confident and pray that I gave the right answer!
When the bell rung and I have to leave the room, I catch a glimpse of the assessment sheet and I can see that the examiner marked the global score as borderline...strangely enough I'm so happy to be awarded borderline as I expected her to mark me as clear fail!I guess I was right about the treatment...

Another stupid thing that I did was I said to the mother, "U have bilateral conductive deafness..."

Station 5
In this station, we had to explain our diagnosis to a mother of child who presented with polydipsia, polyuria, nocturia and lethargy...the blood test showed that he had high glucose and ketones...apart from explaining what Type I diabetes is we also have to explain our management for now up until the next 10 days..as usual, I stumbled all the way! I just hate hormones...I can assure you, I won't become an endocrinologist..

Station 6
This is another written station. We had to watch a video of a 2 year-old girl who came in because of coughing on a background of viral illness a few days ago...We had to write down what are the findings that we can tell from looking at her especially her chest...
Again, borderline, clear fail, clear pass??no idea!

I had rest station after this and I accidentally take the whole answers sheets that was for other students to fill up when they reached that station. Thank God I realised that soon enough or I might jeopardise other people's OSCE..I remember in our second year OSCE where we had to teach the patient how to use oral contraceptive pills and I actually took the pills with me to the next station that the examiner had to come looking for the pills from me...
there's always something funny happens to me in OSCEs...

The rest 6 stations are all O&G stations which I thought weren't as bad as the paeds ones..there was one station in which I ran out of questions to ask the patients..my task was to take a detailed and thorough history from a couple who came in because of infertility..they have been trying to get pregnant for the past 3 yrs...I don't know how much detail I should get into their sexual history(should I ask them how frequent they had sex??what position??-of course I didn't dare to ask such things)...it was frustrating that every questions I asked, the answers were all negatives...I focused most of my time taking history from the wife but I don't know what else to ask the husband that I asked him if he ever contracted mumps which he said yes.(how common it is that mumps was the culprit??ahahhaha..very rare I think)..I sat there in the room not knowing what else to ask until just before the bell rung that I asked the husband if he ever fathered another child! That was the most important question that everyone would ask in the beginning...I also didn't ask about the alcohol, smoking, drug and occupational history which would be relevant!
There was also another station in which the pregnant lady was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus..I just talked continuously but I have no idea if what I said was right..I told U I hate hormones and how come there were 2 types of diabetes examined in one OSCE!!!

Half-way

We just had our exam this afternoon..
As usual, I have no idea where I stand...and I'm feeling a bit depressed at the moment..it's gonna take sometime before I can get over it...if only I can treat exam like guys whom I had crush on, one gone..focus on a new one....or focus on a few simultaneously...
I think I have at least 5 questions which I don't have time to even look at the questions, I simply chose C as the answer...when I look back at the question booklet, those are EMQs (extended-matching questions) where the options could be from A-J or up to O...the odds that C is the answer is very slim...
I should stop babbling about something that's over...it's not in my hands anymore...I can only pray to Allah that somehow miracle will happen again like they always do..."O Allah, let me pass this exam"..no2.."O Allah, make Munirah Binti Zakaria pass the exam with high distinction"...(sounds impossible but we should always pray for the best)...I intentionally put my name there so whenever anyone reads this they will indirectly pray for me too..heheh

Anyway, we went to Sofia for dinner...it was a post-exam dinner + Topek + Aimi + De'a + Cai's birthday celebration...it's Topek's birthday today...n the others were weeks ago..we haven't had time to celebrate as we were all busy with placement, exam preparation etc..

We didn't know that the portion would be that big..each of us ordered one dish for ourselves..Topek also ordered 3 pastas for everyone...(yup, the birthday boy himself)..the oval plate on my left is the pasta..& on my right is my Pollo Valentino...there were 4 pizzas..2 of which we decided to pack straightaway as takeaways...it was just impossible for all 17 of us to finish up everything..there weren't enough space to put everything on the table anyway...

I just feel the need to upload this photo..Duen was laughing his head off..I don't know why but his laugh was pure that he himself couldn't contain..

Owh..this is Topek..err..I used to have a massive crush on him...not anymore!!(I hope this blog will never reach him...but who cares if it does anyway)...

One entry done!
My OSCE will be this Tuesday...pray for me people!!
